Level in the middle, steep everywhere else
Collections come off the trade estates on the valley floor: Lowfields Business Park on Lacy Way, Heathfield Industrial Estate, Rosemount, Gannex Park on the old factory site and Burley Business Centre. They load properly and they are minutes from the centre. The pinch point getting in is Elland Bridge, the listed crossing of the Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation, and the valley floor around it is flood plain, so bad weather is worth mentioning when you book.
Above the valley the roads change character entirely. Saddleworth Road and the climbs to Upper Edge and Lower Edge are steep and narrow with blind bends and few passing places, and the quarry-village lanes at Stainland, Holywell Green and Barkisland run between low stone walls with almost no turning space for a 3.4-metre load. The compensation is that many of those houses are detached stone with a drive. The terraces at Elland Lane and Victoria Road have neither, so those are shuttle carries.
What Elland furniture & large item transport usually involves
- Southgate, Westgate and Briggate are narrow with limited-waiting bays, so unloading means either briefly holding a lane or a longer carry - we agree which before we arrive
- Short-stay council car parks sit just off the centre, but on the terraces around Elland Lane, Victoria Road and Upper Edge both kerbs are lined and there is no off-street parking
- Elland flagstones were quarried here, so the yards, steps and setts are local stone and often uneven; everything gets blanketed and strapped before it crosses them
- M62 Junction 24 at Ainley Top and the A629 is the quick way in from the south, and the A641 through Brighouse the route from Bradford, which matters when a collection and a delivery are in different directions
- We can move the old item up the hill to family, out to the garage or into another room, or take it away with us on the same visit

What it costs
An Elland job is priced on the item, the climb and the carry at the delivery end, and the time it all takes, never on a mileage figure. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Elland from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: furniture & large item transport in Elland
Can you deliver to a house up at Stainland or Holywell Green?
Yes, though we plan the approach. Those quarry-village lanes have low stone walls both sides and almost no turning space for a long wheelbase van, so we work out the route in and the route out first. Many of the houses up there have a drive, which makes the unload itself easy.
Is Elland Bridge an issue for a loaded van?
Not in normal conditions - it is the main way into town and we cross it regularly. What is worth knowing is that the valley floor around it is flood plain, so in prolonged heavy rain we will check conditions before setting off rather than leave you waiting.
Can you take my old sofa away when the new one arrives?
Yes. The old one comes out as the new one goes in, on the same visit, so a climb up to Upper Edge or Greetland only happens once. If you would rather keep it, we can move it into a garage, up to a relative at West Vale, or just into another room. Mention it when you book so the time is allowed for.
