Hipperholme: what to know before moving day
The crossroads is where the A58 Halifax Road becomes Leeds Road and the A644 runs north as Denholme Gate Road and south as Brighouse Road, with the A649 Wakefield Road heading east to Liversedge. The Hop Monkey at the Whitehall and the library are just east of it, and Christ Church stands on the corner of Brighouse Road and Leeds Road. Hipperholme Grammar School, a private school, is on the north side, beside Towngate.
The village has its industrial past in the ground. Joseph Brooke's quarry firm, founded in 1840, was known for non-slip paving stone, and its chemical offshoot ran until 1969. The Bradford to Halifax railway still passes through, but Hipperholme station shut in 1953, so Halifax and Brighouse stations are the nearest today. Station Road, off the crossroads, is mapped at only about 4.5 metres wide, which is worth knowing if your house is down that side.
How the van gets to Hipperholme
From Bradford the van takes the A6036 to the Stone Chair roundabout, then the A644 Denholme Gate Road south past Lumbrook straight into the crossroads; allow roughly 20 to 35 minutes. From Halifax the A58 arrives from the west, and from Brighouse the A644 climbs in from the south. The A649 links the village with Liversedge and the A62.

Yes, from 1937, when the Hipperholme urban district was merged into the borough of Brighouse. Since 1974 it has been run directly by Calderdale Council with no parish council, and it sits in the Calder Valley constituency with an HX3 postcode.
Where does Hipperholme end and Lightcliffe begin?
There is no formal boundary, because the area has no civil parish. Mapping puts Lightcliffe to the east, Coley to the north and Hove Edge to the south, and the two villages share a ward, so a full postcode is the surest guide.
