Farnley (Leeds): what to know before moving day
Old Farnley, the original village, grew up around Cross Lane, which served Farnley Hall on Hall Lane and the manor house where Hall Lane meets Chapel Lane. It still has a small row of shops. The lower shops are in what was Bawn village, and Bawn Avenue, Bawn Gardens and Bawn Lane keep the name, as the Butterbowl streets recall Butterbowl Mill. Farnley Village Green and Lawns Park are close.
Stonebridge Lane runs through the middle. By it, Stonebridge Mill, a gritstone textile mill of about 1800 with its engine house, is Grade II listed, as are the Metre House, a row of workshops and three cottages beside it. Farnley Hill Methodist Church of 1828 is also listed. Ryecroft Academy is on the estate, and the Farnley Hall Fish Pond nature reserve is nearby.
How the van gets to Farnley (Leeds)
Ring Road Farnley, the A6110 dual carriageway, runs past the estate, and Stonebridge Lane meets it. Tong Road, a 40 mph road, links the ring road with Hall Lane and Pudsey Road. From Bradford the Stanningley bypass (A647) joins the ring road, which leads south to Farnley.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 15 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Three different places. Farsley, home of New Pudsey station, lies north-west of Pudsey; Farnley Tyas is a village near Huddersfield. Bus operators are thought to have coined the name Old Farnley to avoid a mix-up with Farsley.

First Leeds routes 15 and 42 have their western terminus at Old Farnley, which helps if you are travelling separately from the van on the day.
