Two ways onto the network, both of them through signals

Going west, the A647 runs into Bradford for the M606 and the M62. Going east, the Stanningley Bypass drops onto the Leeds ring road and the M621. Either way it is only a few miles, and either way those miles are signal-controlled and queue badly at peak. A van loaded for Bristol or Glasgow that sits near Owlcotes for twenty minutes has lost the best part of a motorway hour before it has really started.

Why do you want to start so early for a long distance move from Pudsey?

Because the A647 is the only way out in either direction and its junctions queue hard from about half seven. Loading at seven means we are on the M621 or the M606 before that happens, which can be worth an hour on a run to the south.
