Armley: what to know before moving day
The housing is a mix. There are Victorian back-to-backs, many of them since converted into through terraces, other through terraces, and council tower blocks built to replace older houses at the centre of Armley that are among the tallest in Leeds. Much of the district was rebuilt between the 1950s and early 1970s after bomb damage in 1941 and slum clearance. For a flat in one of the towers, say the floor and send a photo of where the van can pull in.
Town Street is the shopping street, and parking there is mostly on-street, with a few off-road spaces. Armley Mills, once the world's largest woollen mill and now the Leeds Industrial Museum, sits between the canal and the river off Canal Road. Armley Park runs from Stanningley Road down the hill to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, beside Gotts Park and its golf club, and HM Prison Leeds, still called Armley Gaol locally, is on Gloucester Terrace.
How the van gets to Armley
The A647 does almost all the work. From Bradford it runs through Thornbury, past Pudsey and along the Stanningley By-pass, then into Armley as Stanningley Road and Armley Road before ending at the Armley Gyratory. Inside Armley, Town Street, Branch Road and Wesley Road are the main roads between the terraces.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Did Armley ever have its own station?
It had two: Armley Canal Road on the Leeds to Shipley line closed in 1965, and Armley Moor on the line to Bradford Exchange closed in 1966. Armley is reached by road now, mainly the A647.
