Swinnow: what to know before moving day
The fields in Swinnow and Bramley were part of the Leeds rhubarb growing area, the so-called Rhubarb Triangle. When Leeds needed cheap council housing after the war, the land was bought compulsorily and the estate went up on it, so most of the housing here is post-war council-built. Many streets share the Swinnow name (Swinnow Walk, Swinnow Grove, Swinnow Drive, Swinnow Garth, Swinnow Green), so give the full street name and house number when you book, not just "Swinnow".
An industrial estate lies to the south, where Britvic is a major employer, and Swinnow Lane (the B6157) and Swinnow Road carry the through traffic. Christ the Saviour Church and St Mark's Methodist Church are the two churches, and Bramley station stands on Swinnow Road, so it is a good landmark to give a driver.
How the van gets to Swinnow
From Bradford, follow the A647 towards Leeds; past Stanningley the old road, Stanningley Road and the B6157, leads to Swinnow Lane. Swinnow Road, where Bramley station is, is the other way in, and Half Mile Lane and Coal Hill Lane link it with Farsley.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 15 to 25 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
