Darley: what to know before moving day
Main Street is the village, and the houses line it or short turnings such as Stumps Lane, Station Road, Stocks Lane, Walker Lane and Low Green. There are two churches, Christ Church and the Methodist church, three halls, a primary school, a village store and post office run by the community since 2016, and the Wellington Inn by Darley Mill, a listed corn mill at the western end.
Some houses are very old. The Holme has a timber-framed core from about 1500, cased in gritstone in 1667, and still has a thatched roof. The Wesleyan chapel of 1829 and a set of stocks are listed too. Darley once had a station on the Nidd Valley Railway, closed in 1951, which is where Station Road gets its name.
How the van gets to Darley
The B6451 runs north from Otley and meets Main Street at the western end of Darley, by Darley Carr and Hardgroves Hill. From the Birstwith side, Darley Road comes in from the east. From Bradford, Otley and the B6451 are the direct line; from Harrogate the van goes through Birstwith. Hourly buses, route 24, link Darley with Harrogate and Pateley Bridge.
