Dacre Banks: what to know before moving day
The station here opened as Dacre Banks in 1862 and was renamed Dacre in 1866; it closed to passengers in 1951. The stone station building and the goods warehouse have both been turned into homes, new houses fill the rest of the yard, and Cabin Lane takes its name from the old signal cabin. Grange Lane, Grange Road, Church Avenue, Oak Lane and School Lane are the other residential streets.
Holy Trinity Church dates from 1837. The Royal Oak, a three-storey gritstone pub of 1752, and a cast iron water pump with a lion's head spout are both listed, and Low Hall, a 17th-century house with three gables, stands just south. The Dacre and Hartwith village hall, Dacre Stores, the Grange Medical Centre, the cricket club and the Max Pullan recreation ground are all in the village.
How the van gets to Dacre Banks
The B6451 comes north from Otley through Dacre and down into Dacre Banks, then crosses the Nidd on Summer Bridge to meet the B6165 in Summerbridge. From Bradford the van can take that road from Otley; from Harrogate it comes up the dale on the B6165 and crosses the bridge the other way.
