Summerbridge: what to know before moving day
The B6165 is the main street, with the Flying Dutchman pub, tea rooms, a general store, a large hardware store, a garage, the primary school and a big Methodist church along or near it. Summerbridge also has a retained fire station. The houses are in The Whinfields, The Crescent, Whinbush Lane, Poppyfields and Orchard Close, and up Hartwith Bank, Hartwith Avenue and Hartwith Green on the hillside.
Hartwith Bank needs a mention of its own: OpenStreetMap describes it as a very narrow road with a steep hill and marks a 7.5-tonne weight limit. For a house up there, send a photo of the road outside and the drive. New York, a small industrial estate around the old New York Mills, is sometimes counted as part of Summerbridge. Summer Bridge itself, which carries the B6451 over the Nidd, dates from the 17th century and was widened in the 19th.
How the van gets to Summerbridge
The B6165 runs from Knaresborough through Ripley and Burnt Yates to Summerbridge and on to Pateley Bridge. The B6451 from Otley ends here, having crossed the river from Dacre Banks. From Harrogate the van takes the A61 and the B6165; from Bradford the Otley and B6451 line is the alternative. Route 24 buses link the village with Harrogate and Pateley Bridge every two hours.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
