Cross Hills: what to know before moving day
The Airedale railway line splits the village in two. South of it is the larger, mainly residential part, with the shops and restaurants on or near Main Street, the A6068, and streets such as York Street, James Street, Campbell Street and Thomas Street. North of the line, former farmland is now light industry and commerce, with houses along Station Road. The old Kildwick and Crosshills station stood just off Station Road by the humpbacked bridge over the railway; it closed in 1965, and the nearest station now is Steeton and Silsden, about two miles east.
The village has services people moving here ask about: a large health centre and South Craven School, a secondary with a sixth form, both off Holme Lane, plus a library and a police station. On Keighley Road, numbers 1 and 3 are a listed pair of houses dated 1733, and the Old White Bear, an inn dated 1735, is also listed. The beck on the east side of the village forms part of the county boundary, so neighbouring Eastburn, across it, is in West Yorkshire.
How the van gets to Cross Hills
The A6068 forms Main Street and joins the A629 Keighley to Skipton road at the large roundabout between Cross Hills and Kildwick. Station Road, the B6172, links the A6068 with the A629 as well, crossing the railway on its hump. Holme Lane runs south to Sutton-in-Craven, and Park Road climbs west out of the village towards Cononley and Lothersdale.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Both spellings are used; the old railway station was Kildwick and Crosshills. Either will find the village, but the postcode is what the van needs, so include it with the house number.
Which side of the railway is my Cross Hills address?
