Kildwick: what to know before moving day
Kildwick Bridge carries Main Road over the Aire. It was built in stone between 1305 and 1313, paid for by Bolton Priory, and is the oldest bridge in Airedale and Grade I listed; it was widened in 1780 and is really two bridges side by side. By 1968 the bridge and village had become a bottleneck, and the A629 bypass was finished in 1988, so the main traffic now goes round. The canal is so close that it touches the village, with a listed aqueduct and Parsons Bridge, a stone footbridge over the canal and towpath.
St Andrew's Church, known as the Lang Kirk of Craven because it is one of the longest churches in Yorkshire, is Grade I listed, with old stocks by its south gate and the primary school next door on Priest Bank Road. Priest Bank Road runs from the village towards Kildwick Hall, a gritstone manor house built around 1650 for Henry Currer, Grade II* listed and used in 1967 for a television Wuthering Heights; it has been a private house again since the 1990s. Kildwick Hall Mews and other homes sit near it. In a house of that age, measure large furniture against the doors before the day.
How the van gets to Kildwick
Main Road leaves the A629 at the Kildwick end of the bypass, crosses the old bridge and meets Kirk Gate and Skipton Road in the village. Skipton Road then runs east past Priest Bank Road and New Lane. From Bradford the A650 takes the van to Keighley, and the A629 runs on up the valley to Kildwick.

Is Cross Hills in Kildwick parish?
For the Church of England, yes: Cross Hills has no parish church of its own and belongs to St Andrew's, across the Aire in Kildwick. For council purposes they are separate civil parishes.
Could a passenger take the train to Kildwick on moving day?
Not to Kildwick itself. Kildwick and Crosshills station closed in 1965. The nearest station is Steeton, a short drive down the valley, which is useful if someone is travelling separately on moving day.
