Calcutt: what to know before moving day
The B6163 changes name several times in a short distance here: Blands Hill up from the river, then Calcutt, Belmont Grove, Calcutt Bridge and Belmont View, before Thistle Hill. Side streets include Coronation Terrace, Whiteway Head, Belmont Avenue, Spitalcroft and St Robert's Gardens, and The Cricketers pub is on the main road. The Holbeck runs through on its way to the Nidd.
Low Bridge, which carries Bland's Hill over the river, is a limestone bridge of two arches built in 1779 and listed. Nearby on Abbey Road is the Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag, a Grade I shrine carved into the foot of a cliff in 1408, and the map marks carved figures such as the Fox and Cubs and a Bird of Prey close by.
How the van gets to Calcutt
From Bradford the route data comes up the A658, round the Harrogate southern bypass, then north on Thistle Hill, which becomes Belmont View and Calcutt as it runs down towards the river. It is a 30 mph road through Calcutt, and Low Bridge at the bottom takes it across the Nidd into the town.
