Boothtown: what to know before moving day
Mills shaped Boothtown. Rawson's Mill on Old Lane, west of the main road, is now disused and listed. Percy Shaw came up with the idea of cat's eyes on Boothtown's stretch of the A647, and a memorial to him stands just off it. On Simpson Street, a former United Methodist chapel became the Serbian Orthodox Church of St John the Baptist, serving a Serbian community that has been here since the 1940s.
Around the main road the streets are small and mostly mapped at 20 mph, with names such as Simpson Street, Crown Road and Brougham Road, and the post office and Boothtown Methodist Church towards the southern end. North-east, Ploughcroft Lane leads out past Pule Hill to the Halifax ski and snowboard centre at Ploughcroft, beyond which the lanes are mapped at 60 mph. The planned village of Akroydon, at the southern end, has a page of its own.
How the van gets to Boothtown
Boothtown Road is the A647, at 30 mph through the built-up part and 40 mph further north. From Bradford the van comes over Queensbury and drops down it; allow roughly 20 to 35 minutes. Ploughcroft Lane joins Bradford Old Road, Swales Moor Road and Lee Lane at a junction east of the village, and Old Lane runs south on the western side of the main road towards Dean Clough.

The planned Victorian model village inside Boothtown, built around The Square and Chester Road. If your address is there, those street names are what the driver will look for.
