Arkendale: what to know before moving day
Several of Arkendale's listed buildings are barns now used as homes. Dale House Barn is cobbles and brick, and Grange Barn and the barn east of Holgate Bank Farmhouse are reddish-brown brick with pantile roofs. Barn conversions often have wide openings on the ground floor and a narrow stair above, so tell us which floor each big item goes to. Long Cottage, with its Dutch gables, is one of the older houses.
Moor Lane is the heart of the village: the Bluebell pub, Arkendale Community Hall with its car park, and St Bartholomew's Church are all on it. The church, built in 1836, is white brick with limestone ashlar, which stands out against the brown local brick of the village. Manor Park and Clare How Close are the newer streets, and Low Arkendale is a separate cluster.
How the van gets to Arkendale
Arkendale lies about a mile north of the A59 between Knaresborough and York, with Coneythorpe to the south and Staveley to the north-west. Moor Lane is the road through the village, and Hill Bank and Spitlands Lane lead out. From Knaresborough the van leaves on the A59 and turns north onto the lanes.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
