From the ring-road stores to a York front room
Clifton Moor and Monks Cross both sit just inside the A1237, so a collection from either is a short run into the city, by Wigginton Road from Clifton Moor or by the A1036 from Monks Cross. Ring the store first to have the order ready at the collection point, and the van loads and leaves. Smaller pieces come from the centre too, such as the Community Furniture Store on James Street or a bed from the York Carpet & Bed Centre on Scarcroft Road.
The work is at the delivery end. A wardrobe for a Holgate or South Bank terrace goes through a front door that opens straight onto the pavement and up a steep, narrow stair, so a big flat-pack piece is carried in boxes and a fitted bed frame you already own is rebuilt upstairs. On Bootham and in Clifton, the townhouses have more floors but wider halls. If the old piece is going, the council's bulky waste collection can be booked on 01904 551551.
Arranging a York furniture delivery
- Send the store name and order number, and say which collection point at Clifton Moor or Monks Cross it is waiting at
- Measure the front door, the hall and the turn at the top of the stairs, especially in a terrace or a Georgian townhouse
- For a flat inside the walls, the drop is made before 10.30am or after 5pm, outside footstreet hours
- Bed frames and existing flat-pack you own can be taken apart and rebuilt; new flat-pack stays boxed
