Steeton (West Yorkshire): what to know before moving day
The oldest houses are in the streets around High Street, School Street and Market Street. Numbers 14 to 20 High Street were a single mid 17th-century house, refronted in 1710 and divided into four; 44 and 46 School Street, built in 1710, became the Goat's Head inn in the 1770s. The High Hall dates from 1674, and the former Woodlands Mill, a spinning mill of about 1812, has been turned into homes. Several of these are listed, so measure doorways before a big item is booked.
Steeton also has a wartime story. A Royal Ordnance Factory opened here in 1940 and produced over 200 million munition components, and a rare two-storey pillbox built to guard it was listed in 2010. The Old Star, on the corner of the old A629 and Station Road, closed in 2014 and became three houses, while the Goat's Head still trades on Skipton Road.
How the van gets to Steeton (West Yorkshire)
The van comes from Bradford by the A650 to Keighley, then the A629 Aire Valley Bypass, which skirts the village. The A6034 Keighley Road leaves the bypass by the station and heads north over the Aire to Silsden. For Steeton itself, Station Road links to the B6265, which runs through the village as Keighley Road and Skipton Road, with a 19th-century milestone in front of 10 Keighley Road.

Is Steeton and Silsden station in Steeton or in Silsden?
It is on the outskirts of Steeton and closer to Steeton than to Silsden, which is about a mile to the north. Daytime trains run half-hourly to Leeds and hourly to Bradford Forster Square, Monday to Saturday, and a multi-storey car park with about 245 spaces opened there in July 2024.
Does Steeton come under Silsden Town Council?
No. Steeton is its own village in the civil parish of Steeton with Eastburn, while Silsden is a separate town with its own council across the river. They share the station and the BD20 postcode district, but not a council.
