Oxenhope: what to know before moving day
The modern village grew out of Uppertown, Lowertown, Leeming and Horkinstone, with the old hamlets of Marsh and Shaw also counted in. By 1850 there were more than 20 mills here, and Leeming Reservoir was built in 1872-73 to feed them. That history shows in the housing: 22 to 36 Hebden Bridge Road is a listed terrace of seven millstone grit cottages, some with cellars, and 11 Yate Lane is a 17th-century house with long mullioned windows. Crossfield Road, Gledhow Drive and Mallard View are among the residential streets away from the main road.
The shops are close together near Best Lane and Hebden Bridge Road: a Co-op, the post office and the community centre, with St Mary the Virgin church, founded at Patrick Bronte's urging, further along. A cellar or a narrow cottage stair is worth a photo when you ask for a price, because it changes how big pieces come out.
How the van gets to Oxenhope
The A6033 is the main road through the village. It leaves the A629 at Cross Roads, stays high on the east side of the valley past Haworth, drops into Oxenhope and carries on over Oxenhope Moor to Hebden Bridge. From Bradford the route data also offers the B6145 Thornton Road out of the city to the A629, then the B6141 Long Causeway and Denholme Road down into the village.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Why is Oxenhope station on the edge of the village?
The railway was meant to stop at Haworth, and when it was extended the gradients ruled out reaching Lowertown. The company built Station Road from the station to Lowertown instead, crossing Leeming Water on a railway-style bridge. For a move near the station, say which end of Station Road you are on.
Is Oxenhope part of the Haworth parish?
No. Oxenhope is a civil parish in its own right, in the Worth Valley ward of Bradford Council. Haworth and Stanbury is a different parish, although the two villages share the BD22 postcode district.
