Nidd: what to know before moving day
Nidd Hall dominates the parish. It was rebuilt in 1825 for Benjamin Rawson, a businessman with major commercial interests in Bradford, enlarged in the 1890s, and is now a hotel. Its South Lodge, with an Ionic portico, and its gate piers are listed, as is the Church of St Paul and St Margaret of 1866, which has a monument to the Rawson family.
The village houses sit along Town Street, which links Ripley Road (the B6165) with Nidd Lane. Nidd Bridge station, on the south side of the Ripley to Knaresborough road, closed to passengers in 1962, and The Homestead, once its railway hotel, is now a private house. OpenStreetMap shows a 7.5-tonne weight limit on Ripley Road through the parish.
How the van gets to Nidd
From Harrogate the van takes the A61 Ripon Road north through Killinghall. Nidd Lane leaves the A61 and comes east to Town Street, or the van can carry on to Ripley and turn east along the B6165, which is Ripley Road as it passes Nidd. From Knaresborough the B6165 comes the other way.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
