Knox: what to know before moving day
Oak Beck runs through the middle of Knox. Vehicles could once cross it at a ford, but that route was closed in the 1980s, and now only people on foot or bikes cross, using the Spruisty packhorse bridge, a listed single-arch bridge from the 17th or 18th century. A van cannot cut across from the Bilton side, so a booking needs to say which side of the beck the house is on.
On the west side, Knox Mill Lane leads off Ripon Road to Knox Mill Close, Knox Park and the Knox Sawmills yard, and OpenStreetMap shows a new development, Kings Croft, under construction between Knox and Killinghall. The older Knox Avenue, Knox Drive, Knox Grove and Knox Rise streets run towards Bilton. Bus route 2 used to run as separate Woodfield and Knox side services until the two were merged in 2023.
How the van gets to Knox
All car traffic reaches Knox by the A61 Ripon Road, which runs north from Harrogate towards Killinghall. Knox Mill Lane and Grainbeck Lane both turn off it. OpenStreetMap marks a 7.5-tonne weight limit on Grainbeck Lane. From Bradford the van comes up the A658 and crosses Harrogate to the A61.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
