Bilton: what to know before moving day
Bilton west of the old railway line was built up through the 19th and 20th centuries, and its streets run from Victorian terraces such as Mafeking Street and Rawson Street to the later estates around King Edwards Drive, Woodfield Road and Bachelor Gardens. Poets' Corner is the part with poets' names on the signs: Tennyson Avenue, Coleridge Drive, Keats Walk, Shelley Court, Chaucer Green and Milton Close.
St John's Church, designed by George Gilbert Scott and built between 1851 and 1857, is Grade II* listed, and its former hall, vicarage and a cast-iron lamp post are listed too. There are three churches, four primary schools and a library, which now shares the old Woodfield Primary School site. The Nidderdale Greenway, a path on the old railway line, opened in 2013 and starts in Bilton.
How the van gets to Bilton
Every road out of Bilton leads to Skipton Road, the A59, which is the main road across northern Harrogate and is heavily congested at peak times. Bilton Lane is the main way in from it, with Crab Lane, King Edwards Drive and Woodfield Road branching off. From Bradford the van comes up the A658 and crosses Harrogate to Skipton Road; an early start helps avoid the worst of the traffic.
