High Brunthwaite: what to know before moving day
Two listed houses give the place its character. Kiln Hill Cottage is an early to mid 18th-century stone cottage of two storeys, with quoins, a coped gable and a doorway under a Tudor-arched lintel. The Grange is older, from the late 17th century: three bays, a lantern finial on its gable, and a single-storey outshut at the back. Measure the doorways and the stairs before booking anything large.
Brunthwaite Crag and Brunthwaite Crag Wood are a short walk away, and Tomling Cote Farm lies to the south-east. Nearby stands the Barden Aqueduct, a listed three-arched stone bridge of about 1858 that carries a water supply over Brunthwaite Brook.
How the van gets to High Brunthwaite
Brunthwaite Lane is the way in: it leaves Hawber Lane, passes Brunthwaite and reaches the High Brunthwaite houses, then carries on east, unlit, to meet Light Bank Lane. Hawber Lane joins Howden Road on the edge of Silsden, and the town is reached from Bradford by the A650 to Keighley, the A629 to Steeton and the A6034 across the River Aire. Tell the driver the house name and whether there is room to pull a long van off the lane.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
