Gomersal: what to know before moving day
Gomersal Hill Top, where Oxford Road (the A651) meets Church Lane and Spen Lane (the A643), is the centre: the post office, Gomersal Primary School, a Sainsbury's Local and an Asda Express are all within a few steps of the junction. The larger old houses include Red House, built by the Taylor family in 1660 and listed Grade II*, and Spen Hall, now divided into several homes. Charlotte Brontë's friend Mary Taylor lived at Red House, which appears as Briarmains in Shirley.
Some housing is recent. Burnleys Textile Mill was demolished for a development of up to 300 homes, and Burnley's Mill Road and Burnleyville now appear on the map. On Quarry Road the Moravian settlement keeps a listed terrace of three-storey houses and two brick cottages attached to the church, all from around 1800. The bow-fronted Methodist chapel of 1827 on Latham Lane is known as the 'pork pie chapel', and Gomersal Public Hall, of 1850 to 1852, began as a mechanics' institution. In a stone cottage of that age, measure the front door and the turn of the stairs before a large sofa is booked in.
How the van gets to Gomersal
Two A roads cross at Hill Top. The A651 comes down from Birkenshaw, where it meets the A58, and carries on to Heckmondwike; from Bradford it starts at Tong, so it is the direct road in. The A643 links Gomersal with Birstall on one side and Cleckheaton on the other, and Muffit Lane, the B6122, runs east towards White Lee.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

BD19 belongs to Royal Mail's Bradford postcode area, and postcodes do not follow council lines. postcodes.io puts BD19 4PU in Kirklees, in the Liversedge and Gomersal ward, so council tax and bins go through Kirklees rather than Bradford.
Is there still a railway station in Gomersal?
Not since 1953. Gomersal station, on the Leeds New Line, opened in 1900 on Moor Lane just beyond the 890-yard Gomersal Tunnel under Oxford Road, and most of its site is now a road.
