Flaxby: what to know before moving day
Flaxby has only two listed buildings, and both stand outside the village. One is the Temple of Victory of 1790, a Grade II* octagonal gazebo with a lead dome on a hill close to the A1, linked in local legend to the Grand Old Duke of York. The other is a milepost on the south side of York Road inscribed Knaresborough and Green Hammerton Road.
The land east of the village has been talked about for building. A developer proposed a new town called Flaxby Park, north of the A59 and west of the A1(M), with 2,500 to 3,000 homes, but in 2017 Harrogate Borough Council put forward the Maltkiln scheme at Cattal instead. Ilke Homes opened a modular housing factory at Flaxby in 2018; it closed in June 2023. For church matters, Flaxby belongs to the ecclesiastical parish of Goldsborough, St Mary's.
How the van gets to Flaxby
The A59 runs past Flaxby as York Road and New Road, a 60 mph road out of Knaresborough towards the A1(M) junction and York. Shortsill Lane and Lidget Lane lead north from the village towards Coneythorpe, and Green Lane is the residential lane in Flaxby itself.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Is Flaxby Park a finished estate I might be moving to?
Not from what the public record shows. Flaxby Park was a proposal for a new town, and the council chose the Maltkiln site at Cattal instead in 2017. If your new home is on a new-build site nearby, send the plot number and postcode so the van finds the right entrance.
