Elland Upper Edge: what to know before moving day
The Rock Tavern is on Dewsbury Road in the middle of the village, with Banks End Road, Bean Street, Wilderness Road and Common Road close by, and Upper Edge Baptist Church about 160 metres along. The church traces its history to a Sunday school founded at Elland Edge in 1837; the church itself was founded in 1863. Pinfold Lane runs from Dewsbury Road to Moor Hey Lane and Ridgeview.
Farmland and old quarries surround the houses: Lower Moor Hey Farm, Ridge End Farm and the Elland Edge Quarries are all close, with Scar Edge woodland between Upper Edge and Lower Edge. The Elland ward reaches this far because its boundary takes in part of the old parish of Rastrick as far as Dewsbury Road and the crossroads with New Hey Road.
How the van gets to Elland Upper Edge
Dewsbury Road, the B6114, is the road through the village. New Hey Road, the A643, passes to the south-east on its way to Ainley Top and junction 23 of the M62, and the Calderdale Way, the A629 Elland bypass, runs to the south-west towards junction 24.
