Moving in Clough Head: what to know first
Clough Head is a crossroads, and the roads meeting there, Slaithwaite Gate, Clough Road, Waller Clough Road and Rochdale Road, carry traffic between the valley and the moor roads. The van should not stand on the junction itself, so for a house near it, say whether there is a yard, a drive or a side road such as Meeting House Lane or Pinfold Lane where it can wait while loading.
Several of the houses around the crossroads are listed stone buildings: weavers' cottages on Waller Clough Road, a house with its barn in one range on Clough Road, and farm cottages at New Ing Farm. Measure the stairs and the doorways before booking a large piece, and mention a barn or outbuilding if anything is coming out of one. Some tracks nearby are unsurfaced and about 2 metres wide, so send a photo if your house is down one.
Clough Head: the local picture
Clough Head Junior and Infant School, a small Kirklees community primary, is on Bolster Moor Road. Around the crossroads are listed houses: 57 Clough Road is a late 18th or early 19th-century house with its barn in one range, and on Waller Clough Road numbers 1 and 3 are a pair of weavers' cottages with a tiled roof, while 12 and 14 are a stone pair with coped gables.
On Rochdale Road at Harts Hole, number 15 has an eleven-light mullioned window in its upper floor, and New Ing Farm is a row of farm cottages with a barn. Crimble Clough, wooded along its stream, and Rye Loaf wood are the green edges, and Crimea Lane is a bridleway rather than a road.
How the van gets to Clough Head
Slaithwaite Gate, Clough Road and Waller Clough Road are all through roads, so the junction itself is easy to reach. From Bradford the van leaves the M62 for the A643 and the A640 New Hey Road, takes Round Ings Road and Halifax Road to Slaithwaite Gate and turns into Bolster Moor Road, roughly 30 to 45 minutes.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Clough Head
The school says Golcar and the address lookup says Bolster Moor. Where am I moving to?
Both are used. The address lookup files Clough Head under Bolster Moor and Scapegoat Hill, while the school's own address gives Golcar, Huddersfield. For the booking, the street and HD7 4 postcode are what matter.
Can the van stop by the primary school?
Yes, once the school run is over. The primary school sits on Bolster Moor Road just off the crossroads, so the driver times the arrival for mid-morning or early afternoon and then pulls in as close to your door as the parked cars allow.
Which road should I give if my house is right on the crossroads?
Give the road your front door faces, Slaithwaite Gate, Clough Road, Waller Clough Road or Bolster Moor Road, plus the house number. The four meet at one point, and the driver plans the stop for the right side of the junction.
