Moving in Cackleshaw: what to know first
The older part of Cackleshaw is reached by Sykes Lane, an unpaved lane off Keighley Road, and Hamworth Drive nearby is unsurfaced too. A long van can use them in dry weather, but an unsurfaced lane is slower going, so tell us which house it is and send a photo of the lane outside. If it looks too rough, the van stops on the tarmac and the last part goes by trolley.
The newer side is ordinary estate housing on Goose Cote Lane, East Royd, Southlea Avenue and Harewood Crescent. Goose Cote Lane mixes bungalows, which mean no stairs at all, with two-storey semis and a few detached houses, and it is a bus route with stops at Harewood Crescent, so the van loads on a drive or pulls in clear of them.
Cackleshaw: the local picture
For centuries this was farmland, much of it tenanted from the Duke of Devonshire's estate. Sykes Lane, the way to the older houses, is still unpaved. Beside it is the Goose Cote Lane Recreation Ground, also known as the Bronte Playing Fields, and Branshaw Golf Course is a few hundred metres off.
The newer homes are on East Royd, Goose Cote Lane, Southlea Avenue and Harewood Crescent, and Hamworth Drive is signed at 20 mph but has no hard surface. A ward boundary runs close: BD22 7JR here is in Worth Valley, while BD22 7NF, under 300 metres away, is in Keighley West. Oakworth's Co-op and post office on Victoria Road are under half a kilometre away.
How the van gets to Cackleshaw
From Bradford the van turns at Cross Roads: the B6144 to the A629 Halifax Road, a short stretch of the A6033 Haworth Road, then Vale Mill Lane and Mytholmes Lane across the valley to Station Road in Oakworth, and East Royd for the last few metres.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Cackleshaw
Why does Cackleshaw have such an odd name?
It is old. Records spell it Cackeleshawe, Cackelshay, Cackwelshey and Cockleshaw, from the Old English kakele, a cackler or a nickname, and sceagh, a copse. Write Cackleshaw with the BD22 7 postcode, the spelling on today's maps.
Is Sykes Lane in Cackleshaw passable for a long van?
Usually, yes, at walking pace: Sykes Lane is unpaved, not closed. After heavy rain the driver may stop on the tarmac at Keighley Road and trolley the rest, so a photo of the lane with your enquiry settles it before the day.
How far is Cackleshaw from Oakworth village?
About a third of a mile east of it. Cackleshaw is a separate hamlet, though the Goose Cote Lane housing now joins them. Cackleshaw is in the Worth Valley ward and Keighley's civil parish, so give the postcode rather than just the village name.
