Oakworth: what to know before moving day
On the map the village centre sits by Holden Park, the grounds of Oakworth House, once owned by Sir Isaac Holden. The house was sold after his death in 1897 and all but destroyed by fire in 1907; only the portico survives. The listed gate piers at the park entrance carry bronze statues, and Oakworth Primary School stands in the old estate, its sloping playground once an ornamental lake. The Co-op, post office, Methodist church and village hall are all close to the park.
Oakworth Hall, dated 1702, and Christ Church, built in 1845-46, are both listed, as are 14 to 20 Colne Road, early 19th-century houses, and a cast-iron milepost on Keighley Road giving the distances to Keighley and Colne. Around them are residential streets such as Park Avenue, Maple Avenue and Privet Drive, while Clough Lane and Clough Gate are mapped as setted. How the van gets to Oakworth
The B6143 runs through the middle of the village as Keighley Road, Chapel Lane and Colne Road, and on towards Keighley. The route data from Bradford instead goes via Haworth: the B6144 to Brow Top Road, then Victoria Road, Ebor Lane, Victoria Avenue and Providence Lane, which meets Chapel Lane in the village.
