Student Removals in Hebden Bridge

Calder High covers the valley's sixth form and that is as far as education goes locally, so Hebden Bridge students commute out by train to Manchester and Leeds or move there outright. Shifting the room is the hard bit, because in this town the front door is rarely on the same floor as the road.

Over-and-under houses, and the stairs that come with them

The double-decker terraces are the most awkward housing stock we load anywhere. Four and five storey blocks are built into the valley wall, the top two floors entered from the uphill street and the bottom two from the downhill one, so the room you are emptying is often two floors above or below wherever the van can stand. There is no lift anywhere in that stock, and there is not going to be.

Which street we work from decides everything else. Heptonstall Road, Birchcliffe Road, Keighley Road and the Buttress are steep, narrow and partly cobbled, and Heptonstall village itself is stone-setted lanes with nowhere to turn a long van around. In the centre the formal loading bays are on Old Gate and Valley Road and little else, with parked cars regularly blocking the through route, so a September job starts early or it starts badly.

What Hebden Bridge student removals usually involves

  • Council pay-and-display is the only central parking and it fills with visitors by mid-morning, so we load first thing rather than queue for a space
  • St George's Square, Bridge Gate and Market Street are narrow and part-pedestrianised, which usually means working from the Old Gate or Valley Road bays and barrowing the rest
  • The A646 through the valley can close outright in heavy rain, worth knowing when a date is fixed weeks in advance
  • We do not take the A6033 over Cock Hill from Oxenhope with a full load - it is a few miles shorter and a steep, exposed moor road
  • One room's worth is a perfectly normal booking, and coming over from Bradford adds nothing to the price

Where in Hebden Bridge we work

  • Valley Road and Victoria Roadmill conversions and studio units, and one of the town's only two loading bays
  • Birchcliffehillside terraces above the centre, stairs in one direction or the other on every job
  • Heptonstallsetted lanes and millworkers' cottages with no room to turn, so we shuttle down
  • Mytholm and Charlestownwest along the valley, straightforward kerbside loading by local standards
  • Old Town and Blackshaw Headgritstone farmhouses on the tops, worth an early start for the climb
  • Mytholmroyddown the valley, where plenty of Calder High families actually live

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Hebden Bridge and the surrounding HX7 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Hebden Bridge runs

  • Hebden Bridge → Manchesterdirect by train for a rucksack, one van load when the whole room goes
  • Hebden Bridge → Leedsdown the valley through Sowerby Bridge and Halifax, then east, usually a day job
  • Hebden Bridge → Bradfordthe A646 and A6036 through Halifax rather than over Cock Hill, around three-quarters of an hour

What it costs

On a Hebden Bridge job the stairs do more to the price than the mileage, so tell us which floor the room is on and how close the van can get. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Hebden Bridge from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: student removals in Hebden Bridge

Are there student halls in Hebden Bridge?

No. There is no university or college in the town. Calder High in Mytholmroyd covers secondary and sixth form, further education students go to Calderdale College in Halifax, and degree students take the Caldervale line to Manchester or Leeds. The moves we do here are outbound and back again.

Our flat is two floors above the street. What does that change?

The order, mostly. Boxes and bags go down first so the stairs stay clear, then the mattress on its side, then the bed frame if it has to come apart. Two people on a long staircase is far quicker than one, so an over-and-under is worth booking the second pair of hands for.

Can you do a storage run at the end of the tenancy and again in September?

Yes. We have no warehouse of our own, so you book the unit and we do both halves of the journey: everything in when the tenancy ends, everything out when the next one starts. Each leg is an ordinary van job, priced on the load and the time it takes.
