Those double-decker terraces, built four and five storeys into the valley wall, are the reason the town is famous for flying freeholds and the reason a removals day here starts earlier than most. The A6033 over Cock Hill towards Oxenhope is shorter but it is a steep, exposed moor road and not one to take with a full load.
