Sofa & Bed Delivery in Hebden Bridge

Before we quote a sofa into Hebden Bridge we ask one question: which street is your front door on? In the over-and-under terraces the top half of the building is one house off the uphill road and the bottom half is another off the downhill road, and that answer decides the whole job.

Over-and-under terraces: up from the street, or down

These are four and five storey blocks built into the valley wall, split horizontally into two separate homes with two separate entrances on two different roads - the town's famous flying freeholds. Whichever half is yours, there is a stone staircase between the van and the living room, and there is no lift anywhere in that stock. A corner suite goes in as sections with the feet off; a solid divan base usually does not go at all, so order it split.

Getting the van near enough is a second problem. Heptonstall Road, Birchcliffe Road, Keighley Road and the Buttress are steep, narrow and partly cobbled, Heptonstall village is stone-setted lanes with nowhere to turn a long wheelbase, and the centre around St George's Square, Bridge Gate and Market Street is narrow and part-pedestrianised with formal loading bays only on Old Gate and Valley Road. We take the bay and carry the rest.

What Hebden Bridge sofa & bed delivery usually involves

  • Parking is council pay-and-display and the tightest in Calderdale - St George's Square and Valley Road fill with visitors by mid-morning, so an early start is worth more here than anywhere else we go
  • The loading bays on Old Gate and Valley Road are the only realistic standing for a long van in the centre
  • Parked cars regularly block the through route completely, and one lorry driver reported taking forty minutes to get across town, so we build slack into the slot rather than promise an exact time
  • New Road, Valley Road and the ground floors along Hebden Water sit in a serious flood corridor, and a good share of our sofa and mattress work here is ground-floor replacement - the ruined one goes out and away on the same visit
  • Mattresses travel flat or on edge and are never folded; frames, headboards and bunk beds come apart and go back together in the room

Where in Hebden Bridge we work

  • Birchcliffeover-and-under terraces where the door you use is on a different road from the one below it
  • Heptonstallstone-setted lanes and millworkers' cottages, no turning room and a walk in with the load
  • Valley Road and Victoria Roadcanalside and riverside mill conversions, and the loading bay we actually work from
  • Mytholm and Charlestownvalley-side terraces along the Burnley Road, reachable but with steps in the way
  • Old Town and Blackshaw Headgritstone farmhouses on the tops - wide doors, slow climb with a full van
  • Mytholmroyd and Cragg Valewhere plenty of Hebden Bridge households end up, so we do a lot of short valley hops

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Hebden Bridge and the surrounding HX7 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Hebden Bridge runs

  • Bradford to Hebden BridgeA6036 to Halifax then the A646 up the valley - we avoid the Cock Hill moor road with a full load
  • Halifax collection to Hebden Bridgehalf an hour up the valley, same-day when a slot allows
  • Hebden Bridge to Mytholmroyd or Sowerby Bridgethe common move back down the valley, sofa and bed in one trip

What it costs

The number of stone steps between the nearest legal standing and your door drives a Hebden Bridge price, along with the size of the item - never the distance from Bradford. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Hebden Bridge from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: sofa & bed delivery in Hebden Bridge

Can you get a sofa into an over-and-under terrace?

Yes, provided we know which entrance is yours. The critical detail is whether your door is on the uphill street or the downhill one and how many stone steps sit between it and the living room. Send that plus a photo of the stair turn and we will tell you whether a corner unit goes in whole or in sections.

There is no lift and my flat is two floors up from the street - what do you need?

The width of the narrowest doorway, a photo of the staircase and the number of steps from the nearest place a van can stand. Nothing in the old Hebden stock has a lift, so every job is carried, and knowing the steps in advance is what lets us give you a fixed price instead of a guess.

Can you take the old sofa away when the new one comes?

Yes, on the same visit. That matters here because a lot of ground-floor replacements follow flooding on New Road and Valley Road, and nobody wants a soaked settee sitting outside for a fortnight. We will not clear a whole property though - the item being replaced is what leaves with us.
