Over-and-under terraces and a part-pedestrianised centre
The over-and-under blocks are the local speciality. Four and five storeys built into the valley wall, with the top two floors forming one house entered from the uphill street and the bottom two a completely separate house entered from the downhill street. Sellers say first floor and mean something quite different from what you are picturing, so ask which street their front door opens onto and how many steps sit between it and the road.
In the centre it is parking that decides everything. St George's Square, Bridge Gate and Market Street are narrow and part-pedestrianised, with formal loading bays only on Old Gate and Valley Road, and the pay-and-display fills with visitors by mid-morning. One parked car can block the through route completely. We aim for an early slot, take the valley road rather than Cock Hill, and keep the van moving.
What Hebden Bridge marketplace & ebay collection usually involves
- Eighteen miles from Bradford: A6036 to Halifax, then the A646 through Sowerby Bridge and Mytholmroyd; the A6033 over Cock Hill is shorter but not with a load on
- Heptonstall is stone setts with nowhere to turn a long van, so for a village address we agree a stopping point in advance and carry from there
- Send the cash with us if you would rather not transfer to a stranger, and we hand it over once the item has been checked on the doorstep
- Photos and rough measurements beforehand prevent the wasted trip; if something came into one of these terraces in pieces, it is coming out in pieces
- The valley floor around New Road and Valley Road is a flood corridor and the A646 can close in heavy rain, so we move a slot rather than leave a seller waiting

Common Hebden Bridge runs
- Hebden Bridge → BradfordA646 down the valley then the A6036 over from Halifax, 40 to 55 minutes

What it costs
Two things drive it: how many flights of stone stairs the item has to come down, and the total distance from the seller's door to yours. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Hebden Bridge from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: marketplace & ebay collection in Hebden Bridge
The seller says it is a first-floor flat. Why do you ask more questions?
Because here first floor can mean two floors up from the street you park on, or two floors down. The over-and-under terraces are entered from two different streets at two different levels. Ask which street their door is on and we will know what we are carrying before we arrive.
Can you park near the seller in the town centre?
Sometimes. The loading bays on Old Gate and Valley Road are the only realistic van standing, the square and Valley Road are pay-and-display, and both fill with visitors by mid-morning. We would rather take an early slot and be loaded before the town wakes up properly.
Is it worth buying from here if I am in Bradford?
Often, yes. It is eighteen miles and the valley road is slow but straightforward, and there is no travel surcharge for it. The thing to check is the item rather than the distance: get the width and height from the seller and measure your own door before we commit to the run.
