Wycoller: what to know before moving day
Everything in Wycoller gathers around the ruin of Wycoller Hall, built in 1550 by Piers Hartley and partly taken down in 1818, and around Wycoller Beck with its three old crossings: the twin-arched Pack-Horse Bridge, the Clapper Bridge and the single-slab Clam Bridge. Visitors leave their cars at the car park on the road in from Trawden or at the one by The Atom sculpture towards Haworth, so on moving day the question is how close the van may come to your door. Ask whoever manages access to your property before booking, and tell us what they say.
The homes are old stone buildings. The listed buildings list for Trawden Forest has Wycoller Cottage and Wycoller House from the 17th century, Pierson's Farmhouse, Laitre Hills Cottage, Lowlands Farmhouse and Thistleholme, most with stone-slate roofs and mullioned windows, and the hall's old barn became a visitor centre in 2005. In houses this old, measure the doorways and stairs before a large sofa or wardrobe is booked in.
How the van gets to Wycoller
Wycoller sits between Trawden and Laneshaw Bridge. On the Trawden side OpenStreetMap names the lane in Wycoller Road, and to the north-east Two Laws Road climbs out of Laneshaw Bridge over the moor towards Keighley and Haworth, which is also the direct way across from Bradford. The main-road alternative is the A6068 through Cowling into Laneshaw Bridge.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
