Most of the stock is gritstone two-up two-downs in grid-iron rows, densest down the North Valley and along Colne Water towards Primet Bridge. A lot of them have stone steps or a small flagged forecourt up from the pavement and no rear vehicle access whatsoever. That combination decides the day: the van sits on the nearest street it can, the trolley does the flat sections, and heavy items are planned around the step count.

The road matters more here than in most towns we cover. What happens if the moor road is closed on moving day?

The A6068 is high and exposed and it is one of the first roads round here shut for snow or ice, and there is no motorway alternative from the Bradford side. If the forecast looks bad we ring you the day before and either bring the start time forward or move the date, rather than leaving you waiting.

Can the van get down our back street?

Almost certainly not. The back streets behind Colne's terraces are unadopted cobbled ginnels, too narrow and too rough for a long wheelbase Transit, so the job is worked off the front. That means steps and a forecourt in most cases, which we plan for when we quote rather than discover on the day.
