Pecket Well: what to know before moving day
Pecket Well Mill, a fustian weaving mill of about 1840 with its weaving shed, engine room and chimney, has been converted into flats and is Grade II listed. On Keighley Road, a listed row of six early 19th-century cottages at 8 to 13 is raised above the level of the road, so expect steps up from the pavement. 1 Pecket Bar was a toll house of about 1830, and the Robin Hood Inn is a listed early 19th-century pub.
Crimsworth Methodist Church of 1834 and its former Sunday school of 1868 are both listed, and a stone pinfold with an embattled wall stands beside Keighley Road. Farms such as Wilcroft, Bent Head and Lower Crimsworth, dated 1599, spread over the slopes, and the Smeekin Hill war memorial is Grade II listed. Wilcroft Terrace, Old Lane and Sprutts Lane are the short side roads.
How the van gets to Pecket Well
The A6033 runs straight through, named Keighley Road on the Hebden Bridge side. Akroyd Lane leaves it here for Old Town, at a junction marked by a listed guide post, and Purprise Lane is the other lane off it. A van from Bradford reaches Hebden Bridge through Halifax and then takes the A6033 up out of the town.
