Chiserley: what to know before moving day
Billy Lane is the main road, and most of the village's services sit close together on it: the Wadsworth Post Office, a small Calderdale Council car park, Old Town Primary School, Wadsworth Community Centre and a crown green bowls club. Chiserley Gardens, Westfield, Walker Lane, Old Mill Ridge and Foot Kiln are the residential streets around them.
The oldest houses are grouped at Chiserley Hall, where a house dated 1617 has been divided into three homes, with cottages, an archway and an 1837 barn beside it, all Grade II listed. Lower Chiserley is a listed row of 1810 with three storeys, Green End is a row of six cottages with a barn from 1825, and Club Houses is another listed early 19th-century row. In three-storey cottages, the stair width is what decides whether a large wardrobe or sofa goes up in one piece.
How the van gets to Chiserley
Billy Lane runs through the village. Towards town it becomes Lane Ends Lane and Sandy Gate Lane, then Sandy Gate and Birchcliffe Road, which comes down to the A6033 in Hebden Bridge. Nook Lane and Height Road leave Billy Lane for the higher ground, and Parrock Lane links it with Old Town.

Why do some older papers call it Chisley?
Because that was the name until 1964. The spelling Chiserley appears on the 1979 Ordnance Survey map. Both refer to the same hilltop village in Wadsworth parish, and the HX7 8 postcode is what we route by.
