Middleton (Ilkley): what to know before moving day
Getting across the river decides the route. The Wharfe runs through the northern part of the town and is crossed by four bridges: a 16th-century stone bridge now closed to road traffic, a 19th-century wrought-iron bridge, a footbridge and a steel box-girder bridge. When the river is high it can close the road beyond Ilkley Golf Club's clubhouse in Middleton that leads to Nesfield.
Beyond the houses the lanes are country roads. Carters Lane, Curly Hill, Slates Lane and Hunger Hill run between the woods, with Middleton Woods, Nell Bank Wood and West Park Wood around them and Birch Tree Lane mapped as a track. Grange Farm House, possibly early 17th century, and its farm outbuildings are listed. Westville House School is in Middleton, and the Curly Hill campsite and the Nell Bank centre are close by.
How the van gets to Middleton (Ilkley)
From Bradford the route data follows the A6038 over Hollins Hill to the A65, then the Burley in Wharfedale bypass and Ilkley along Coutances Way, then crosses to the north bank on Denton Road and takes Carters Lane into Middleton.
