Lowerhouse: what to know before moving day
Lowerhouse Lodge, a stretch of water used for fishing, is one of the Lowerhouse Lodges, which were made into a local nature reserve at the millennium. Around it are residential streets: Knotts Lane, Fox Street, Scott Street, Bear Street, Printers Fold, Lowerfields and Loxley Gardens, all inside a 20 mph zone. Greenbrook Road leads to the Greenbrook Community Centre, and Jacky Wood is on the western side.
Industry shaped the place. During the Second World War the Magnesium Elektron factory in Lowerhouse became the largest magnesium production plant in Britain; a road to the south-west still carries the name Magnesium Way, and leads to the Burnley Bridge business park. The track bed of the old Padiham to Rose Grove railway branch runs nearby. Lowerhouse Cricket Club, a Lancashire League side, plays on Liverpool Road to the east.
How the van gets to Lowerhouse
The motorway is the approach: after crossing from Bradford to Colne, the van takes the M65 west. Junction 9, the Rose Grove Interchange, is the nearest: Magnesium Way leads from it to the business park, and the A646 Liverpool Road passes the cricket ground. Lowerhouse Lane leaves Liverpool Road and runs into the estate, meeting Knotts Lane, Fox Street and Greenbrook Road.
