Lothersdale: what to know before moving day
Lothersdale is unusual in one practical way: no house in the village is connected to mains gas or mains water, and mobile and broadband signal is limited. That has kept new building down. For moving day, agree a meeting point and time before you lose signal, and keep a written note of the address, as a call from the lane may not connect.
The heart of the village is at Dale End, by the Hare and Hounds and the village hall, where Dale End Mill stands. It began in 1796 as a corn mill, became a textile mill and is Grade II* listed, with a large waterwheel and a tall chimney. Nearby, Quaker House, a meeting house of 1776, has been converted into a home, and Stansfield House dates from 1752. Christ Church, designed by R. D. Chantrell, was built in 1838. Streets are short: Dale End, Garden Terrace, Peel Terrace, Rook Street and Calf Wood Lane.
How the van gets to Lothersdale
Stansfield Brow is the road into the village from Lothersdale Road, which runs back to Glusburn, and it meets Rook Street and Babyhouse Lane. Calf Wood Lane and Sidegate Lane lead out on the other side. From Bradford the van takes the A629 to the Kildwick roundabout and the A6068 through Cross Hills, where Park Road climbs west towards Lothersdale.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
