Hetton: what to know before moving day
Most of what you will be moving out of is old stone. The parish has twelve listed buildings, nearly all of them houses and farmhouses: Ivy House dates from about 1600, Dumpty Cottage and Lainger House are both dated 1673, and at Rock Farmhouse, built in 1758, the rear of the house faces the street. Stone slate roofs, low mullioned windows and chamfered doorways are the norm, so an old doorway can be narrower than a modern one; measure it before a big wardrobe or sofa is booked.
The village is small enough that a handful of names cover it. The Methodist church opened in 1859 and stopped being used for worship in 2021, and The Angel Inn, a restaurant with a Michelin star, is in the village. Hetton Beck runs by the village, the Dales High Way footpath passes through, and the Grassington branch railway, now a quarry line, runs to the east. Bordley, the other half of the parish name, is a separate village within the same parish.
How the van gets to Hetton
The B6265 from Skipton towards Grassington is the road in. It runs through Rylstone, and from there Raikes Lane is the through road across to Hetton, which lies west of the main road. Around the village OpenStreetMap names Back Lane, Fleets Lane and Moor Lane, with Long Lane as the B6265's name on the stretch nearby. From Bradford the usual way is up the Aire Valley to Skipton first.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Why is the parish called Hetton-cum-Bordley?
Hetton was its own civil parish until 1 April 2012, when it was merged with Bordley to form Hetton-cum-Bordley. Hetton is the bigger of the two, so for an address in the village you will usually see Hetton, Skipton, BD23.
Which council covers Hetton now?
Craven District Council ran it from 1974 until 2023. Since then Hetton has been under the unitary North Yorkshire Council. The village also lies inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
