Harlow Hill: what to know before moving day
Two towers mark the hill. Harlow Hill Tower, a 90-foot stone observation tower, was built in 1829, and the circular Harlow Hill Water Tower followed around 1902. All Saints' Church, Harlow Hill, dates from 1870-71. On the western edge is RHS Harlow Carr, the Royal Horticultural Society's northern garden, which grew from a spa of the 1840s; its old Harrogate Arms hotel was bought by the RHS in 2014. The Harrogate Spring Water bottling plant is on Harlow Hill too, drawing from an aquifer below the Harrogate Pinewoods.
Much of the housing is recent. Harlow Hill is described as having a number of new developments and an office park, and the map shows it: estates with names such as Snapdragon Way, Tulip Avenue, Wisteria Gardens, Aster Way and Orchid Gardens, and the Larkfield streets, alongside roads such as Plantation Road, Pinewood Drive and Harlow Moor Road. If your home is off a parking court or a shared drive, say where the nearest spot for a long van is.
How the van gets to Harlow Hill
Otley Road, the B6162, is the way in, running out from the town towards Beckwithshaw. From Bradford, the A658 comes past Leeds Bradford Airport and Pool to the south of Harrogate, and the B6161 links Pool with Beckwithshaw, where the B6162 leads back in along Otley Road. Harlow Moor Road, Beckwith Head Road and Crag Lane are the other main roads on the hill.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Where does Harlow Hill end and Harlow Carr begin?
Harlow Carr is the RHS garden on the western edge of Harrogate, and Harlow Hill is the district around it on Otley Road. The garden began as the Northern Horticultural Society's trial ground, leased at Harlow Hill, and opened in 1950.
Are the Valley Gardens walkable from Harlow Hill?
Yes, on foot. The Pinewoods at the south end of the Valley Gardens link the park with Harlow Carr, and the Harrogate Link path runs through both. The van, of course, goes round by road.
