Goose Eye: what to know before moving day
Both mills are now homes. Turkey Mill, built in 1797 for cotton and later worked for worsted and then paper, was converted to housing in 2000; its 200-foot chimney came down in 1971. Rag Mill, which started as Brow End Mill in 1791, is also listed and converted. The cottages follow the lane: 6 to 16 Goose Eye is a listed row of six millstone grit cottages from about 1822, built on a curve to follow the road, and there are further listed cottages at 11 and 15, 22 and 30 to 34.
The Turkey Inn, also listed, is close to the bridge, and Goose Eye Bridge over North Beck dates from the early 19th century. Goose Eye Wood and Higher Holme House Wood lie around the hamlet, and Teapot Dam is mapped nearby. In a converted mill, say which floor you are on and how the entrance and stairs work.
How the van gets to Goose Eye
The route data from Bradford takes the A650 to Keighley, the A629 North Street and the B6143 Oakworth Road, then Fell Lane, Stell Hill and Holme House Lane into the hamlet. The steep climb out towards Laycock became the Cote de Goose Eye in the 2015 Tour de Yorkshire. Lund Lane is mapped with a gravel surface and part of Holme House Lane is setted.
