Ainsty: what to know before moving day
Much of Ainsty was built by the local developer Norman Ashton's firm in the 1960s, on top of a mix of council and private housing from the 1940s. A good number of the closes on the northern side are named after Yorkshire rivers: Aire Road, Calder Close, Derwent Rise, Don Avenue, Esk Gardens, Foss Avenue, Nidd Approach, Ouse Drive, Swale Rise and Ure Grove. Ainsty Road, Ainsty Drive and Ainsty Garth and the Kings Meadow streets make up the rest.
There is a Co-op Food store in the middle of the estate, and Deighton Gates Primary School stands between Ainsty and Deighton Bar. Across the county boundary to the north, Kirk Deighton's pub, church and village hall are the nearest amenities for this corner of Wetherby, even though that village is in North Yorkshire.
How the van gets to Ainsty
Deighton Road is the way in, leaving the town centre northwards as North Street; Ainsty Road leads off it into the estate. From Bradford the van comes by Pool-in-Wharfedale, Harewood and Collingham, then the A58 into Wetherby and up through the centre, roughly 45 to 55 minutes.
