Sheepscar: what to know before moving day
The interchange was built in the 1960s because of the traffic where the A58 to Wetherby, the A61 to Harrogate and the Inner Ring Road meet, and both main roads are very busy at peak hours. For a collection from a unit, a mid-morning or early-afternoon slot may miss the worst of it, and it helps to send the unit number and the name of the estate, such as Penraevon or Dolly Lane.
Clay Pit Lane runs through the south of Sheepscar and Scott Hall Road leaves the interchange northwards, with Chapeltown to the north-east, Meanwood to the north-west and Burmantofts to the east. The big gasholder is easy to spot in winter but almost vanishes in summer, because its tank sinks below ground. The old public library building, once the West Yorkshire Archive Service's Leeds base, is now a games studio. In 1893 Sheepscar Tannery was the largest in the country.
How the van gets to Sheepscar
From Bradford, the A647 runs into Leeds and the Inner Ring Road carries on round the north of the centre, meeting the A58 and A61 at the Sheepscar Interchange itself. Dolly Lane, with its business centre, is one of the side roads among the units; Chapeltown Road heads north and Roundhay Road, the A58, towards Harehills.
