Buslingthorpe: what to know before moving day
The name goes back to 1258, as Buselingtorpe, the farmstead of a man called Buselin. By 1870 it was a chapelry of the parish of Leeds with 4,548 people in 998 houses, and St Michael's Church, built on Buslingthorpe Lane in the 1850s, served it until it was demolished around 1960. Almost none of that housing survived the clearances.
On today's map, Buslingthorpe Lane and Buslingthorpe Vale run through a mix of the Buslingthorpe Green and Penraevon light industrial estates and blocks of homes such as Carr Mills, The Leather Works and Leodis Residences. The recreation ground was renamed Norma Hutchinson Park in 2009, after the Jamaican-born Leeds councillor. For a flat in one of the blocks, check where the van can wait and whether there is a lift before the day, and give the block name as well as the street.
How the van gets to Buslingthorpe
From Bradford, the A647 leads to the Leeds Inner Ring Road, which runs round the north of the centre to the Sheepscar Interchange. Scott Hall Road, the A61, heads north from there along the east side of Buslingthorpe, and Meanwood Road on the west; Buslingthorpe Lane joins the two.
