Little London: what to know before moving day
The area is divided into four estates: Lovell Park, the Oatlands, Carlton and the Servias. On the Carlton estate, west of Lovell Park Road, the three 12-storey blocks of 1965, Carlton Garth, Carlton Croft and Carlton Close, have been refurbished, and the older Carlton Towers were replaced in the 2010s by new low and medium-rise homes. East of the road, the Oatland estate has three tower blocks, refurbished and reclad, and Lovell Park, south of Claypit Lane, has high-rise and maisonette blocks that kept their brick cladding, plus the newer 25-storey Opal Tower.
In a tower block, the lift decides the day. Say which block and floor you are on, whether there is a lift that takes a sofa, and where the van can pull in at the foot of the block. Carlton Barracks, opened in 1865, is still in use, All Souls' Church is one of the few buildings older than the redevelopment, and The Leeds Rifleman is the one pub left.
How the van gets to Little London
Camp Road, the old main street, was renamed Lovell Park Road in the south and Oatland Lane further north, and those are the roads through the estates. From Bradford, the A647 brings the van to the Inner Ring Road, which passes along the southern edge of Little London to the Sheepscar Interchange, where the A58 and A61 meet.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
