Rishworth: what to know before moving day
Rishworth School was founded by John Wheelwright in 1724, and its first building, later the school chapel, is listed; the grounds now extend over 130 acres. St John's Church stands on Godly Lane beside St John's Church of England Primary School, and Rishworth Baptist Church of 1803 is listed with its forecourt wall. Bridge End is a listed row of three-storey cottages, the Malt House is a listed mid-18th-century building now a bar and restaurant, and Upper and Lower Goat House go back to the late 16th century.
Rishworth New Mill, a four-storey, 19-bay mill of about 1864, stands with its Italianate lodge, and the weir, mill race and dam of Rishworth Mill are listed as well. Residential roads include Birch Avenue, Heathfield Rise, Regal Drive and Rishworth Hall Close. Ryburn Reservoir, finished in 1933, lies just north of the village, and Rishworth was the end of a railway branch from Sowerby Bridge that carried passengers from 1881 to 1929.
How the van gets to Rishworth
The A672 Oldham Road is the main road, starting from the A58 in Ripponden and running on past Booth Wood to junction 22 of the M62. Rishworth New Road and Godly Lane both leave it in the village. From Bradford the van comes through Halifax and Sowerby Bridge to Ripponden first.
