Ripponden: what to know before moving day
Three roads meet in the centre: the A58 as Halifax Road and Rochdale Road, the A672 Oldham Road, and the B6113 Elland Road, which crosses the Ryburn on a bridge of 1772 built for the Elland turnpike. Close by, Priest Lane crosses the Old Bridge, a Grade II* replacement for a packhorse bridge of 1553, rebuilt in 1973, next to the Old Bridge Inn and St Bartholomew's Church of 1867 to 1868. Old Bank is a setted lane with listed houses from the 17th century onwards.
Around the centre are Mill Fold, Mill View, Bridge End, Brig Royd and Royd Lane, with a Calderdale Council car park on Royd Lane and a Co-op. Riverbank Primary School and Ripponden Junior and Infant School are both in the village. The Old Bridge Inn, Grade II listed and dated to 1307, holds an annual pork pie competition.
How the van gets to Ripponden
From Halifax the A58 comes through Sowerby Bridge and Triangle and enters as Halifax Road, carrying on west as Rochdale Road beside the river towards Baitings Reservoir. The A672 leaves it in the centre for Rishworth and the M62, and the B6113 Elland Road heads east as Ripponden New Bank towards Barkisland and Greetland.
