Oxton: what to know before moving day
The two listed buildings are the main houses. Oxton Hall is an early 18th-century small country house in reddish-brown brick with a front of Tadcaster limestone, and Oxton Grange is a mid-18th-century house in rendered brick with a Doric porch. Both are Grade II. Tadcaster Mere, a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1987, lies between the town and the hamlet, and the River Wharfe runs along the parish with Hargarth Ings beside it.
Oxton was a township of Tadcaster parish until 1866, when it became a civil parish in its own right. The deserted medieval village of Oulston is also inside the parish. Beyond Oxton Lane the only named road is Slice Lane, and the bus stop on the lane is called Oxton Farm.
How the van gets to Oxton
Oxton Lane runs out of Tadcaster, where it is a 30 mph street, and becomes a 60 mph country lane towards the hamlet. The A64 passes close by; according to the A64 route description, the road rejoins its former line at Oxton after the Tadcaster bypass. From Bradford the van comes through Leeds on the A64.
