Catterton: what to know before moving day
The named places on the map are Catterton Hall Farm and East Garth Farm, with Catterton Beck running past. A medieval moated site in Catterton is a scheduled monument. The name is old: the first part comes from the Brittonic cadeir, a chair or throne, which it shares with Chadderton and Chatterton in Lancashire.
In the 17th century Catterton and neighbouring Bilbrough argued over the unenclosed moor between them. A meeting that Robert Fairfax helped to arrange ended in violence, and in 1723 the two sides settled it by digging a ditch from Thwaites Lane to Escars to divide the land. Moor Lane is the road between the two places today.
How the van gets to Catterton
Catterton Lane runs south from the hamlet towards the A64 on the Tadcaster side, and Moor Lane runs east to Bilbrough. From Bradford the van comes along the A64 from Leeds, past Tadcaster. Farm entrances are easy to miss, so send the farm or house name with the postcode.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
