Oatlands: what to know before moving day
Oatlands Mount is the local centre, with a post office, a fish and chip shop and a pharmacy close by, and Oatlands Infant School and Oatlands Community Junior School are the schools the area is named with. The Oatlands recreation ground, play park and allotments give it open space. Around them the streets run in sets: Almsford Road, Drive, Oval and Place; Coronation Road, Avenue and Grove; Firs Road, Avenue and Drive; and the Wheatlands roads. With so many similar names, the house number and full postcode matter more than usual.
The area's listed buildings are few but tell you its age: St Mark's Church, designed by John Oldrid Scott, was built between 1898 and 1905, and 36 and 38 Leeds Road are a stone pair of semi-detached houses of 1898. Wheatlands, the residential district south of the Stray, has St Aidan's and St John Fisher's high schools, which share a sixth form; near them, load outside the school run if you can.
How the van gets to Oatlands
The A658 from Bradford runs past Leeds Bradford Airport, Pool and Huby and meets the A61 near Pannal. Head north on the A61 Leeds Road into the town; Leadhall Lane and Hookstone Road are the through roads in Oatlands, and Hookstone Road also leads to Hornbeam Park.
